What is it about kids being so obsessed with trucks

Almost every kid I know, especially boys, have gone through a “digger” phase where all they wanted to do was play with dump trucks, create elaborate construction sites, and their favorite activity was watching the tractor down the street during my neighbor’s remodel!

When my nephew was 2 he too was completely enamored with all things that were large yellow heavy machinery so my sister-in-law threw him a toddler construction party and it was amazing!

If you type in “construction party” to Pinterest you will be bombarded by some of the most over the top children’s soirees I have ever seen!

This party wasn’t like that.

The main attraction was a tarp with a few huge bags of dirt piled on top and a bunch of various plastic digging tools and trucks.

I know that is super simple but the kids loved it!

They totally went to town with it and a few had to be dragged away kick and screaming when the party was over! (Remember, it was for 2 year olds.)

The food was simply displayed with a few adorable details worth mentioning.

  • Notice the large dump truck. It has some goldfish crackers displayed inside. How cute is that?
  • The orange buckets were found at the local HomeDepot and they also were full of food.
  • Everything was labeled with easy to make construction printables which can be found on Etsy.

The food was all generally healthy and mostly purchased premade from the grocery store. The kids devoured it!

The cake and party favors were displayed on a separate table with a construction printable hanging above and a few orange, yellow, and white balloons. Simple and classic!

Each child left with a plastic truck and few other snacks packed into dark brown boxes and decorated with matching labels

As you can see, the party was a huge success and without all of the over the top shenanigans that seem so popular these days! Because when it comes down to it, all kids need to have a good time is a big pile of dirt…and maybe some cake!
